At NSYSU, Chinese Critical Thinking and Expression is a one-semester required course worth 3 credits. Students may apply for credit transfer using either one 3-credit course or two 2-credit courses completed at another institution.

Specific Status

Credit Transfer Options for International & Non-Chinese Instructed Students

For international students, overseas Chinese students, and degree students whose primary language of instruction during senior secondary education was not Chinese, the following credit transfer options are available:

(1) Chinese Language Center Courses

Credit transfer through courses offered by the Chinese Language Center. Applications should be submitted with the assistance of the student's department/program (application form attached). Eligible applicants include:

  • International degree students.
  • Overseas Chinese students.
(2) Reading Formosa

Credit transfer through the intercollege elective general education course "Reading Formosa" (Course No. GEAI1083), offered by the Center for Fundamental Education, Si-Wan College. Students who successfully complete this course may apply for credit transfer. Eligible applicants include:

  • International degree students.
  • Overseas Chinese students.
  • Students whose primary language of instruction during senior secondary education was not Chinese (e.g., students who completed the International Baccalaureate (IB) program, were homeschooled with equivalent academic qualifications, graduated from international schools in Taiwan, or graduated from overseas high schools).

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
Q. Can I take general education courses during the summer?
Yes. Both the Summer College and the Summer Online School offer courses during the summer break, allowing students to earn credits without coming to campus.
Q. Can online courses be transferred for credit?
Yes. Courses listed on the GHEA21 Recommended Course List and approved Coursera courses are eligible for credit transfer, provided that the final score is 70 or above.
Q. What is the maximum number of transferable credits?
A maximum of 10 credits may be transferred from online courses in total, including GHEA21 and Coursera courses.
Q. What if my grade is below 70?
Applications for credit transfer will not be accepted if the final grade is below 70. Students are advised to carefully assess their workload before enrolling.

Formerly known as OSUN, GHEA21 provides international, fully English-taught synchronous online courses. Most courses are offered free of charge. Each year, Si Wan College reviews and recommends selected courses. Courses on the approved list have already passed the university's recognition process. Students who successfully complete the course and obtain the certificate may apply for General Education credit transfer.

Summer College

Courses are jointly offered by universities across Taiwan during the summer vacation. National Sun Yat-sen University is a participating institution. Maximum enrollment: 3 courses per student. After completion, students should submit: 【Inter-college electives】【Liberal Arts Courses】 Credit Transfer Application Form, Official transcript. The above documents should be submitted to Si Wan College for credit transfer processing.

Jointly offered by universities throughout Taiwan during the summer vacation. National Sun Yat-sen University is a participating institution. Maximum transferable credits: 4 credits. The application should be submitted to Si Wan College for credit transfer processing.

Independent Online Courses(Prior Approval Required)

Coursera provides a wide range of courses, as well as additional GHEA21 courses that are not included in the Si Wan College Recommended Course List. Students interested in applying for credit transfer for these courses are required to submit an individual application for review prior to enrollment.

Verify Course Duration and Eligibility A 2-credit course must contain at least 36 instructional hours.
A 3-credit course must contain at least 54 instructional hours.
The course must correspond to a General Education course that has been offered by NSYSU within the past four years.

Apply for Credit Transfer After Approval After receiving approval and completing the course, students must submit: 【Inter-college electives】【Liberal Arts Courses】 Credit Transfer Application Form, Copy of the approved application form, Official transcript, and Copy of passport to process the credit transfer application.
Note: If your course platform account is registered under an English name, please also provide a copy of your passport for verification.
📋 Application Notes:

1. Do Not Upload Course Certifications to the NSYSU International Digital Self-Paced Learning Courses Platform. Students intending to transfer credits as Liberal Arts Courses or Inter-college Electives must not upload course certificates or grades to the NSYSU International Digital Self-Paced Learning Courses Platform. Once uploaded, the credits will be counted as graduation elective credits and can no longer be transferred as Liberal Arts Courses or Inter-college Electives credits.

2. Use the Original Course Title. For global online courses, please enter the original course title exactly as shown on the certificate and transcript. Do not use a translated course title, as discrepancies may affect the credit transfer review process.

Credit Transfer for Exchange Students

⚠ Important Notice

1. Students are strongly advised to apply for a preliminary review before participating in the exchange program or enrolling in overseas courses, to avoid discovering after returning that the course is ineligible for credit transfer.

2. The final course grade must be 70 or above.
